Richard has a unique blend of experience spanning media, mobile communications and product development.

Richard Wharton

Richard was educated at Durham School and the University of Northumbria.

In 1993 he started his career at Lloyds List (part of Lloyds Of London), publishing special reports on the shipping and insurance industries in the MEA region which

Richard continued his career in newspapers spending 6 years with Trinity Mirror PLC where he developed and managed a business unit with annual revenues exceeding £54M.

Deciding that cheap upgrades were a better perk than free newspapers, Richard left Trinity Mirror to become Commercial Director of British Airways Media for 2 years and was instrumental in the rebranding of British Airways customer media, a 10% increase in annual revenues and the commercialisation of ba.com.

In 2003 Richard was invited to become Commercial Director of an independent consultancy business based in Notting Hill, West London that focused on direct source product management and brand creation. Clients included John Lewis , DSG and other major retail.

2007 saw Richard joining the senior management team of Freeplay Energy, the point that David, Colin, Richard, and Nigel all worked together for the first time.

Within 2 years the team turned Freeplay around from a business losing in excess of $4M per year to a break even position. Recognising the unique set of skills and experience the team possessed, the foundations for the future were in place.

In 2009, following the succesful sale of Freeplay Energy, Bullitt Group was formed.

Richard lives in Marlborough, Wiltshire with his wife and two children. He enjoys skiing, photography.
